Issue is accelerator pump. Upon pressing pedal, the arm moves, but does not engage the full stroke of the accelerator pump. Have adjusted the screw out to full extension.
Will not crank. Can spray a little starter fluid, fires right up, depress the accelerator pump arm by screwdriver, fires up.
Do I need to replace the actuator arm (arm with screw and spring) or since I am going to have the carb off, go ahead and upgrade to the larger (50 cc) pump?
Once the engine has ran for a few minutes, can cut if off and come back in a few hours or so and it fires right up. Just on initial starting or cold engine does it show the symptoms.
Trying to visualize what you describe.....the acc. disphram might be stuck and/or the small return spring in the housing could be broken or even missing. You need to remove the carb and take it apart to see. There is no need at all to upgrade to a 50cc unit. Also, with the throttle closed, there needs to be a small amount of clearance between the arm and the spring loaded adjustment screw screw, I think it's 15 thousands. A photo would help.
On the accelerator arm the spring had lost all it sprung.... in other words, it wasn't keeping the bolt tight against the load arm and was allowing it to travel entirely too much. Nut on either side, problem solved. Adjusted the arm/accelerator to 15 thous. and get a full shot of fuel now.
Still having the cold start issue, but starting to think that since fuel is fine, spark is to blame somewhere. Gonna start from the battery and check leads and then go from there. Thanks.
There should be that space between them at wide open throttle, not closed. It should be squirting fuel as soon as the throttle moves, if not you will have a hesitation or flat spot.
