hey guys, i just did the fuel filters on my 04 350 for the first time (for me). my question is about the cap for the filter on the frame rail. it doesn't seem to tighten down so the plastic cap is sitting flush...looks as if there is a 1/8 gap. the cap feels tight and there are no leaks, i don't want to crack the cap from over tightening it either. can someone help me out (or maybe someone has a picture of what its supposed to look like?). i put WIX replacement filters in and they both look the same (not like the frams). thanks
First of all, you should replace these fuel filter using only IH or OEM instead of WIX.
Once you get the cap off again, see what the threads look like, and make sure a new seal is installed on the cap and that nothing broke off inside.
Inspect the cap for any abnormalities.
Second, use a torque wrench for the cap and a 36mm. socket.
then again check for leaks
That's about it.
if an ih or ford dealer is nowhere close by,some of the autoparts stores carry motocraft filters, in my area advance auto does & their alot cheaper than the stealership.most of the non oem filters dont have the watersock media around the primary filter & thats not good.
