The lighter the tounge wt the easier it will rattle around.
If there is closer to 1000 pounds riding on there, there shouldn't be any bouncing/rattling of the insert. Even at 6-800 pounds, unless they are some really rough roads.

Because of the 'slop' in the Excursion hitch platform, it is easy to elongate the holes on each side of the receiver. Both of my Excursions have done this--elongated almost 1/8" in both cases.
