Looking for a little help. I just installed a B M external spin on filter on my 2001 Ford F350 7.3L with the 4r100 trans. I tried to look up which line was the in and out on my trans, radiator and cooler but did not have much luck. I tried to use logic but want to make sure I am correct. I also just installed a autometer trans temp gauge. Did hook it up on the drivers side of trans just above pan bolts at the second bolt a plug. My temps without towing at normal speeds was around 150F. Not sure if it should have been that high. I tow up to 31000lbs with the truck and I am pretty sure the temps will sky rocket once in tow. Just replaced trans 40,000 ago and do not want to mess up.
You didn't connect it in the cooler lines? You connected it to the test port on the driver's side of the trans? How does that work? Where does the fluid return to the trans?
On the passenger's side of the trans the line towards the front is out, the rear line is return to the trans.
I probably should have posted two questions. I did connect the filter to the lines going to my stock cooler. Your info on which lines are which on the trans will clear that question up for me. The trans gauge is what I connected to the test port. I had read that is possibly the best place for more accurate readings. The gauge gave me a reading of 150 with normal driving here in Delaware at around 35F weather. Does this seem ok to you. Just afraid once I start towing again next week the temps may go crazy high.
If I was you I would install a 6.0 tranny cooler. If your seeing 150 unloaded now then your temps will climb fast to the danger zone with that kind of a load.
My issue is also that Ford gave me a 3 year unlimited warranty on the trans. They said at the dealer in Myrtle Beach that they had to install a new stock cooler to make the warranty valid. I had a much bigger one on but not sure what kind. It was on there when I bought it. Do you know if the 6.0 cooler would void my warranty?
Well, if you ever had problems with your tranny, Ford could say that the 6.0 cooler voids your warranty. You can install one and if you ever have problems you could switch back before going in for warranty repairs. Its a crap shoot IMO.

Seems about right, maybe a bit high.

I wasn't aware that I wrote a post on flushing the radiator. Where did you find it?

Thanks for the help Mark. It was actually a post on the correct way to flush a transmission. Also I did have the lines backwards on the trans filter and now the trans is running around 110F without a load. Thanks again.
