Today I was putting in my front and rear glass, I was thinking the front was going to be hard, but it actually turned out easy. The rear window however (slider from LMC) was not (still don't have it in). LMC says to install the ruber on the truck and install from outside. Midfifty says to install rubber on the glass and install from inside. After tearing my rubber all to crap, I still don't have it in. Any suggestions?
I did get it installed once, but had the rubber on backwards and it would not fit right. The big side of the rubber goes in the inside of the cab right?
The front we put the rubber on the cab and then set the front window, was for the most part easy.
Do like mid-fifty said, that was how I have installed mine several times. The earlier sliders, like mine, use a thin aluminum flange and I got mine to seal better by putting thin self stick weather stripping on the inside edge of the metal flange prior to putting the window rubber on. Lube it with soapy water and use a pull cord for rolling the rubber inside the cab, just like the front window.
Okay, so here it’s been a couple months, new seal same problem. I have triedeverything with the exception of cutting the top of the cab off, setting thewindow in and re-welding the cab back up. I have tried the rope; I’ve triedwith WD40, soapy water, a lot of bad words and still can't get that back windowin. It seems like to me that the window is just a pinch too big (top tobottom). When I have the window all the way in at the bottom, the top won'teven make it past the inside of the cab. I'm following the instructions frommid-50's. What I discovered to today is when I have the window pressed into theinside of the cab, the sliders will only open a couple inches each side, it'slike the window is being compressed (too big for the whole). The window was madeby CR Lawrence. Any help here would be much appreciated.
Cut some cardboard strips (maybe 2 x 3) and test fit your window frame buy resting it on several strips at the bottom and you should still be able to slip them in on top and the sides. The frame should have a little less than an 1/8 inch gap all the way around.
thanks for the info, I'm going to order new W/S from mid-50's and try again. Will also check to make sure I have enough clearence between the slider frame and the cab. Wish me luck.
