Hello All
I bought a 1970 sweet f100, 390 with a c6 tranny. The PO said the tranny had began to slip, i drove it and it drove and shifted fine, bought it knowing I probably had a tranny problem. Took it to my mechanic to check things out like TM and vac lines, he said he drove it and it will not shift out of first gear, thinking he hot roded it to get it to slip and really screwed it up, who knows, the being stuck in first is new, never happened to me on my long drive, he called his tranny guy and he said the power bands are bad and it needs a rebuild for $400, any help greatly appreciated
Thanks
Karen
Power bands? What the hell are those? Sounds like a snow job to me (and a stuck governor), not a rebuild.
Your "mechanic" is a thief.
As you can see...> http://351winsor.com/joel/Trannys/C6exp_diagram.gif there's nothing in a C6 called "powerbands".
