I'm looking at a truck that says it has a Trans Power Take-Off , what is this? I think it is a PTO on the trans is this right, would you say that it has idled for a long time, is that bad?
Thanks
They said that is was used in constriction, in the past but they where just divining it now. It looks like it was the bosses truck, no dints no interior damage, original owner, never recked. it is a good price at $5100, with 190k miles.
was the PTO used? I know almost all of the ZF-6's had a PTO port, but you would have to provision it with an aftermarket PTO pump. (at lest that is what I was told)
Idling can certainly be bad for an engine, even a diesel.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but as I understood it, idling is bad especially for a diesel because of the issue of wet-stacking. I don't know if that happens to gassers at all, I thought you could let them idle for ever...
Not that it is pertainent to the OP, just checking my understanding
Is it a stick or an auto? On the autos it ia an option for a PTO and that is what they may be talking about.Sticks all have the cover on the side standard. You have to look under the truck and see if it has a pump on the side of the trans(usually red) It all depends on what the pump is hooked to if it has one. If it is for a tailgate lift or something like that that is only used for short periods then I would not worry about it.
Trans PTO can be used to run a winch, hydraulic pump etc. It is a fairly common option on farm trucks that have a dump box, lift gate or a round bale handler on the rear. If you read the directions, most diesels have an RPM for extended periods of idle. You use the cruise control to set it and hold it. Most are around 1000 rpm or better.
