just bought a 1997 ford f-150 4x4 with 4.6 motor. the check engine light came on. my dianostic tool reads code 401 (egr insufficient flow) i,ve replaced on the parts on the egr side of engine. light still on. could it be a leak in the vacuum lines . i don,t see any wear. need help. ronbare.
First mistake is replacing parts on a hope you will get lucky.
The code says insufficient flow.
It's the 'flow' not just parts.
.
The computer does a test and monitor of EGR gas flow by measueing the difference in pressure accross a .040" hole in a disc in the metal tube (two hoses from the DPFE) one on each side of the disc.
The port behind the EGR may be plugged with carbon stopping flow.
Good luck.
