truck in my sig has a constant WIF light. i have collected the liquid drained each time and have about 10 quarts of what looks like pure diesel on the shlef in the garage. I first got the light about 400 miles after a filter change and a partial fill up at an unknown station. forget to get fuel before i got into the boonies. So any ways i am thinking its time to pull the HFCM and give it a good cleaning, replace the gasket and possibly replace the sensor? any other ideas while i am there or any pointers would be appreciated.
You could get away with just pulling the drain plug and flushing it with
some carb cleaner. Or take it off and flush it that way. On the truck
you would have to deal with any diesel that may drain out. But is possible
to do with out taking it out. If you do it that way just flush it really well.
You will see some jelly like crap come out and that is what you get with
water in diesel is an algae that grows in the water and feeds on the diesel
the stuff can be very corrosive to metal in the system.
Forgot to mention I already tried carb cleaner through the drain hole. Didn't help a bit.
Take out the lower filter and drain plug and preferably I use brake cleaner as it does not leave a residue, takes about 2 cans to clean it out good, then use an air compressor and blow out the housing. Make sure you use eye protection a lot of stuff will come out.
I just pulled the cover off my HFCM. It had a ball of slime right on the sensor. There was no way it was coming out without removing the cover. Buy the cheapo tool for separating the fuel lines - 5/16", I think. Took me about 15 minutes.
