Cool Bad Diesel

Hi All,

This is my first post since I haven't had any issues with my 2001 f250 7.3. I think my problem is bad diesel. filled up today and chugging and smokin the entire way home. What to do before I get towed to mechanic. Should I drain the fuel and what is the easiest way to do so?

Opened up the pep **** on the water filter bowl and let it drain a bit . Started up hard and smokin still. Help please. Supposed to leave on long trip Friday.

You might want to let it set for a at least 24 hours. then if you can put a ciphon hose down into the bottom of the tank and suck it out. Other wise you may have to drop the tank. check the fuel filter also. There are alot of very knowledgable people on here that will help you out. I am fairly new to this also.

welcome to the site dreamdiesel01,
id say ou might want to drain it asap, cause junk might settle up on the bottom of the tank and you have more problems with pickup screen getting cloged,
get a fresh diesel in the can, drain it all out, and put fresh diesel in, open filter bowl drain and drain it for a few seconds, to put fresh fuel in the bowl, that should do it,

First of all, Change your fuel filter. Draining it doesnt really help much, cuz bad diesel will plug the filter and it will run just as you described. Post a pic of the old one when you do it.

After my second encounter with bad diesel, I spent the $100 and did the hutch and harpoon mods.

How much did you pump in there and was it a new station?

Welcome to FTE!!!

There is an anti-siphon valve in the top of the tank, so the best way to cmpletely empty it is to use the pump. If you disconnect the outlet line from the pump and jumper a constant 12V. source to it, it will pump the tank dry fairly quickly.

I used a hose on mine with a rag wrapped around it. Then I shoved the blow nozzle from my air compressor in through the rag with the pressure set about 30 psi and pumped the diesel out that way. You just need several 5 ga. buckets.
