Ok..BONDO! I said it...I am not that talented in making my panels all that straight so yes I will use a little BONDO. Though looking at my neighborhood parts store there are a few kinds. My question is any real difference in light filler to regular filler? Is one easier to us than other? How about adhering properties or sanding? Seems I probably wont do any filling till spring since I still have lots of body repairs to make. But I always like to look ahead. Thanks.
Almost every car or truck that has restoration work and then professionaly painted has at least a skim coat of bondo on it. That is unless you are one heckuva lead filler guy.
My suggestion is Evercoat-Rage Extreme. It costs 69.00 per gallon but you only have to hit it once. It doesn't shrink as bad as normal resin fillers. They all shrink some but this stuff holds up well. Go to Eastwood.com and compare them all.
Carolina is right - very few people can do body work without filler of some kind. The key is to use as little as possible. I am a novice ( I sand off about as much as I put on -- steep learning curve for me) , but I use USC Pro Gold (and USC Icing for the light feathering work) and am happy with it. From what I hear, actual Bondo brand dries rock hard and is really tough to sand.
Black Magic is the old stuff that dried like concrete. Regular Bondo brand filler sands pretty easy and is cheap but you get what you pay for. I've personally never a problem with the Bondo brand but.......
As for Rage Extreme, I have used a couple gallons so far and I'm VERY pleased with how easily it sands.
I've also recently experimented with Slick Sand (sprayable high build) and it was considerably tougher to sand, but a great tool nonetheless.
If I'm filling an area that needs some reinforcement or strength, then I've been using All-Metal to rough things in, and Rage for final shaping.... (minus high build primer)
Thanks all for the reply, yea I used reg bondo but found it pretty difficult to sand, still working on not putting on to much to just end up taking it off. I guess I am to worried that the darn stuff would set up so fast I would get in a hurry and over do it. I will try another brand you all suggest. Thanks to all.
