Hi i recently got a 94 e350 , it was running a lil rough . A good tune up & it runs great . Now i have some transmission problems ..... 1st & 2nd gear work great , when it shifts too drive Its like neutral . It started to do that with overdrive . Now it has nothing past 2nd . If i play with it , it tries to shift into drive but wont hold it . Should i replace the transmission ? Also my ABS light comes on after a couple miles of driving . I dont know what i should do .....
Could be a range sensor issue. It could also be speed sensor issue. I suppose your transmission could be moofed and just dying.
Is your speedometer working correctly? Does it read about the right speed?
Is this a club wagon (guessing because of ABS). Does the overdrive light on the transmission blink on and off? Does the shifter stay tight in place or is it wobbly?
The speedometer works fine . Its a Ext model 15 passenger club wagon. The van had a c6 im guessing when it was new . The 5.8 with the E4od was put in with computer from another van . Everything was working fine for yrs. I took it on a trip & in the pouring rain it kicked out of gear , then we got out of rain & it started working fine . On our way home it didnt want to shift to Od.
After we got home it didnt want to shift down to 1st, i was taking off in 2nd & then 1 day it just started working fine . The od button is on the shifter . The one in the van dont have the button , so i got one that has it. Havent put it in yet , but i do have it. Just hope the plug is there to plug it in.
On the passenger side of the E4OD there's a plug on the top that plugs into the solenoid. That plug can get corroded and dirty, they actually make an updated plug. Could be the solenoid too.
An e4od swap is a hell of job, requiring some serious harness work (as well as welding, custom axles, etc.) You need to get all up in there and verify the harness splices aren't corroding/coming undone.
I saw a select few newer vans with C6s, but i suspect your van came with an e4od. check the door sticker and report back on what the transmission code is.
i say get a c6 back in there,so you lose a bit more gas.c6 less headaches,--no more solenoid this solenoid that sht
I wouldn't, it's gonna be a real headache going back. There's a solenoid pack replaced as a unit, he's gonna have to find out what year transmission he has cause in 95 they moved the diodes from the solenoid pack to the PCM.
I put a used 94 E4OD in my 95 and switched out the solenoid pack. The 95's are built better.
iv seen e40d swaps to c6,in order for the ecm not to throw codes from the e40d not longer there, you simply take out the whole solenoid pack out from the e4od and leave plugged into the harness, ecm now thinks it has an e4od so no codes - wire tie solenoid pack it to the chassis, the c6 just need a vaccum hose, and a c6 flywheel and torqeconvertor,, remember the old bigfoot monster truck, you think it a e4od would of survived in that truck lol, 5 solenoids, mlps sensor and the overdrive center support all good only when working, or just look for a donor e40d, 94 and the 95 solenoid packs have different plugs to the pack i believe 89-94 has the old plug harness
Yes, a built E4OD would have survived in Bigfoot. I was part of a team at Ford that supplied transmissions for off road racing. We started with an E4OD behind a 650 HP 427 cubic inch small block. We won the Baja 1000 and many other races on the way to the championship. Later we switched to the 4R100.
We did talk to the Bigfoot team about running an E4OD, but they wanted to stick with the tried and true old school. We did have a hardware set that would have lasted longer than their C6. It wasn't a stock E4OD, but then again the C6 they run is nowhere near stock, either.
When the TorqShift came out we changed the engine to a 5.4L four valve and a TorqShift.
Latest update i pulled the plug on the solenoid & cleaned it . Now its shifting great . Goes in gear a lil hard & shifts hard from 1st to 2nd. But its shifting all gears now . Could a bad ABS sensor cause the hard shifting???
