I opened the hood to my first f250 1978. I guess this is about when emissions started. There are tubes everywhere. Can I just go hei and ditch all the ignition? Run vacuum to brake booster, egr and dizzy, throw everything else away. How does that sound
Have you researched what needs to be done in your state if subject to emissions?
If not subject, then consider boxing up all the check valves/housings/air pump, etc.. and selling 'em to a fellow FTE'er. Emissions parts are becoming hard to come by so help out by perhaps making them available to keep another Dentside on the road.
Find a BIG thing with a circle on top and its 32" in height say about some have a flat thing that sits on top, And toss it all in! Unless you live in the communist state of California your on your own.
I got a 78' but it's been transplanted with a 429 by the PO, so I'm sure it's missing some factory stuff but I don't really follow why anybody wants to purposefully 'ditch' the factory emission controls? Maybe the better way of asking is what is gained by stripping them?
"Opens up" the engine a bit. By removing the smog control, you are eliminating gas (not fuel) recycling, so your air/fuel charge is cleaner. Removing the cat opens up the flow on the exhaust slightly.
The later smogged engines are choked down by the equipment, as well as a retarded timing set.
I say if you don't need to pass smog, don't leave it on. There's just more parts and hoses then you need. The only thing I don't know about (and maybe someone can answer this), is if you remove the smog crap, do you have to plug the holes in the back of the heads?
