Not like the tax cuts for the rich stimulated the economy...
Here's what I don't understand. The ratification of the 16th amendment allowed for a federal income tax, and the 1913 Revenue Act increased the tax rates in preparation for a wartime economy. As you can see, the tax rate peaked in 1917-1918 when the US entered the war, to pay for it. It was considered un-patriotic to evade taxation, because you would be reducing the amount of money the US government had to fund it's military.
When Bush declared war in Iraq in 2003, you know what he also did? Passed a tax cut act, 8 days after then invasion. And look where we are. We have a massive deficit. If we had the same income tax rates (adjusted for inflation, of course) in 2003 at the start of the war(s) as we did during WW1, we wouldn't have nearly as bad of a deficit.
I disagree. The current Pres and administration has increased the deficit more than all the previous administrations put together. We're at $16 trillion and headed to $20 trillion by 2020. The federal govt' overspends by $4 billion every day.
In 2003, everyone got a tax cut and it is still in effect until Dec. 31. It was extended in 2010 by the current administration.
Personally, I'd be okay with paying more if, and only if, there is real value being delivered which there is not in many cases. Too much nanny policies and regulations and little emphasis on self sufficiency and input on real work. No one is entitled to anything except that granted by the US Constitution.
Ha
Don't worry about me.
It's the enlightened folks thread.
I'm just thinking about how a stack of Priusii would make a great jump ramp for a monster truck. You could stack one for every trillion of debt.
BTW saw two on hooks this morning on the way in.
I don't mind,,, well BS, yes I do mind paying them,,, however if they spent them (our tax dollars) intelligently, and with thrifty common sense, it would not make it that bad, but the fact is, the government just pisses OUR money away! It is REAL easy to spend OPM (other peoples money) and just be careless, there's more where that came from, if not we'll just raise taxes,,, WTF!!! Instead of controlling spending, let's reward them for wasting the most... Hence, the formation of the TEA Party!
And isn't that the rub. Raise taxes continually and spend it on B.S. I pay over a thousand dollars a month in state an federal taxes. But the pukes that live across the street in their section 8 subsidized house get to drive a Benz and an escalade and I GUARANTEE they don't pay a piddly cent in taxes.
