Finding Correct Speedo Gear
[Edit: Didn't see yours previous comment about the teeth being gone, or chris's. Hmm maybe I should pull the drive shaft later this week and look for a part number and try to match it with the same? or does my methodology make sense with the part number e0tz?]

This is actually the same guy from the example picture I posted earlier
He has almost the same setup as me 4wd 1345 t/c but a different rear ratio
but if you look at the last page, he find the blue drive gear is supposed to fit but it was actually green when he got it. I am going to head over to the dealer to pick up the drive gear e0tz and the driven gear with 16 teeth to be safe even though my 19 tooth one looks fine too
I will post the progress, although I don't think I will work on it today

Just took the u joint off, but how the hell do I remove that yoke, I thought it slips off ?
I looked at the 1345 diagram and realized the middle of the yoke was a nut, well couldn't tell until I blasted it with carb cleaner and engine degreaser for a minute, but there is no way I am fitting a socket over that, I don't have enough to grab at cause it is offset into the yoke
how do I do this??
Devin
Went to ford got the new drive gear and driven gear
and got them in, now I just need to pickup a u joint tomorrow.
here are some pics for future diy mechanics
and here we are, this is the nut that holds on the yoke it is 1 - 1/4. Before I strayed it with carb cleaner and engine degreaser and took a smaller screwdriver and went around and cleaned out the crude, you couldn't tell it was a nut. I thought for sure there was no way a socket would fit in there, but after cleaning it up some more it actually fit quite well.

The next part is the seal, I tried a screw driver and a chisel trying to chisel it to break it loose but I had much better luck like this, I tore it up quite abit using the previous method and using pliers, you are not going to remove it like that ! Do this, take your chisel like mine in the picture and then hammer against the bottom side, so it pushes it out and this will work its way out.

Here is the old drive gear, yes it is green but the part catalog list it as blue and so does ford so be weary

Excuse the next to pictures, they are blurry because I got grease on my phone lens.
The old seal

I got my new seal from Napa , heres the link
NAPA AUTO PARTS
Not sure though if that was the right one because it is listed as input seal, the measurement on there website show it as 2.69" diameter rather than 2.75", I think that I should have possibly had the 2.75" or something inbetween judging on how tight the old one was in there, or maybe the PO replaced it with one that was too tight, either way we will see how it works, I don't think much fluid gets up in there though
We'll see
Good luck
Devin
Good to know the seal isn't as bad as I thought it'd be.
Now I just hope that axle drive-shaft seal on the passenger side of my Dana 44 isn't actually leaking. We'll know the more I use my 4x4!

I got to put new U-joints on my drive-shafts here soon as well.
EDIT: I see where your old drive gear was worn out in the middle! That's pretty wild. I'd change the ATF in the transfer case soon so you know it's full with good fluid.

Yeah it was pretty worn, I had just added ATF though when I got the truck so I think its fine, I just think it had been a problem prior to me even buying it.
Thanks Again
Devin
