starting to think my problem is the drive gear, I am going to still get the new driven gear anyway but have a gut feeling, the speedometer is still isn't going to be moving for awhile
If the only difference is tooth count it would work but just be inaccurate, as you said. As for reversed direction, I do believe I saw something somewhere about that. But, that would take a different driven gear and if you put the wrong driven gear with a reversed drive gear and they touched you would at the very least have a spot on the plastic drive gear that was worn. And I would think it would be badly worn. So, if your gear isn't hurt at all it is either working correctly or not even touching.
Going to see if I can shoot a video tomorrow with my phone and the flash on to see what I can see in that hole, I hear people are able to look in there and identify problems sometime with the drive gear, for thought advice now on replacing the drive gear?
possibly a link with some pictures
Nah but atleast some explaination on how to get in to the Transfer case and whats involved, I read about getting in from the top through a removable piece but I didn't see that on the illustration in the parts catalog
Good luck. On my truck that hole is so close to the bottom of the bed or cab that you'd have a hard time getting your eye up to it. So, maybe the phone/camera will work. My problem is getting the phone's camera to focus when I can see what to tap to focus on.
Now I am alittle skeptical about my part numbers cause I am looking to find what part number would be the drive gear and I cant get information to match up nicely, all the 4.10's show D0TZ 17285-a but when you look at the identification chart it is type 1, 6 teeth and green but when you look at the 85 chart, there are no reference of that part number or green
Welcome to the master parts catalog. Just when you think you have it figures out it throws you a curve. And, there are omissions. And errors. But, most of the time it is worth the effort.
Thank god for modern technology, as soon as I stuck the phone up in there I could tell it was green cause I could see the screen. I took a good video I am going to post it later, I really with I could get someone to move the truck a couple inches so I can see the whole gear and see what kind of condition it is in or if its moving at all ??? maybe it was installed wrong cause it didn't look too bad at all from what I though
Put the rear axle on jack stands, put the tranny in neutral, and as you video turn the driveshaft with your right hand. If you don't have jack stands pull the front end of the drive shaft off.
What I know, I think it would make sense to say it out loud to try and get the facts together
I believe since I have a Transfer case, the transfer case drive gear part number supersedes (pg 9 of 172 "1985 speedometer drive gear combination) the t-19 drive gear part number (pg 19 of 172 "4.10 rear axle ratio")
so rather than the 4.10 listed d0tz 17285-a I would be using the e0tz 17285-c.
So does that mean the driven gear changes too, or follow the 4.10 rear axle ratio chart?
Also if you go to pg 6 of 172, D0TZ p/n lists type 1 which is green and E0TZ p/n lists type 12 which is blue,
So I shouldn't have a type 1 green in my transfer case.... but then again I don't think the part colors are right either, example https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/m...0&ref=gnr-next This should be blue according to ford parts catalog
So the parts I believe I need as of now are
driven gear C0DZ 17271-a
drive gear E0TZ 17285-c
