People always make fun of our east coast earthquakes but a 5.0 is like a 6.5 out west at the epicenter. Our geological structure is much much older and dense deep down.
Imagine a brick being hit by a hammer versus a steel bell.
Oh no I didn't think that at all. I was typing at the same time as you and didn't even notice your post until I submitted mine. About 20 years ago, some crazy "scientist" predicted a gigantic earthquake for a specific day for this area. He caused all kinds of headaches.
We had the same thing happen in Southern Illinois (sometime between 1990-1991). My house was sitting empty up there at the time and I was contemplating buying quake insurance. I bet the guy was an insurance salesman. I'm glad all is well at the Truckstock venue!
Thanks everyone for making me feel welcome. I've been lurking around here for quite some time thanks to Doc. It was late last night when I posted that picture and I didn't elaborate on it. I just couldn't resist, it was too fitting. Guess I should have given some warning, though - too graphic for the squeamish among us, LOL!!! When I read the USGS report shortly after the quake happened and saw that it was centered in Blackey I have to say I half anticipated ol' Doc had something to do with it. LOL! Needless to say, it was a high pucker factor situation for us here and I'm glad it wasn't worse. Take care everyone and have a great night!!!!
If know body else is going to step up,I will take on the task of starting a restoration fund for the earthquake victims. Please send me all your hard earned cash, and after I take out the $ needed to run this, I will send the remaining 5% to help rebuild Blackey.Remember only you can make my restoration projects happen.

We're talking about the same event I think. The guy's name was Iben Browning. He caused all kinds of headaches, then died a few months later.
