You guys out in California are probably laughing... I was visiting my family in L.A. once and slept through a 5.4.
No, Doc. Not laughing. Just hoping there's no damage. Most things here are now built / rebuilt to earthquake standards because we have so many faults (take that any way you want).
I hadn't considered the mines and that made me worry for you. But they probably didn't feel it because they weren't sitting in a comfy chair watching TV, they were working or moving around.
When the quakes get up over a 6.0 they're felt for many miles away, and the bad ones over 7.0 cause major damage no matter how well things are constructed.
I'm glad you're OK and had no damage. That's all I was trying to say.

Oh no I didn't think that at all. I was typing at the same time as you and didn't even notice your post until I submitted mine. About 20 years ago, some crazy "scientist" predicted a gigantic earthquake for a specific day for this area. He caused all kinds of headaches.
Doc, last time I saw your '50 it was on those skates -- did it take off?!
LOL. I wish! I honestly can't see a single that thing out of place anywhere.
A few years ago, we felt a 5.0 plus earthquake that was centered in Illinois. All of the geologists say this area is due a big one someday. The New Madrid earthquake in 1812 apparently rung church bells in Boston and made the Mississippi River run backwards as it formed Reelfoot Lake. 1812 New Madrid earthquake - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Glad all is well Doc.
With the recent quakes in Virginia, Eastern Tenn, New York, New Jersy, and now Kentucky something is about to give on the east coast. I hope it just continiues to do slow movements rather than a big Quake. I did add earthquake insurance when I renewed my homeowners insurance last month. There is also a major fault line that runs under Charleston SC that is over due for a major movement. It is very near the Savannah River Nuclear Facilty. We all might be shaking and backing soon?
LOL. I thought I was hallucinating. Those of you who came to Truckstock will remember this guy. Neil, you're crazy, but that's hilarious. Now go get yourself an old FORD truck!
Glad the rumbler wasn't too bad, Doc, and glad there weren't any mine issues in your area. I grew up in southern Illinois and went through a couple of good ones along the New Madrid fault but, like Neil's pic, nothing compared to the ones that hit the west coast. We're also in tornado alley, but again nothing like Katrina or like Sandy delivered to the northeast a couple weeks ago. Mother Nature has a way of letting us know who is in charge. Stu
Too bad this didn't happen two weeks ago you might have gotten a visit from Barry. You would.have had a chance to give him a big ol' bear hug and tell him what great job he's doing. Probably would gotten some government money to upright that chair. Now you're just SOL like the rest of us.
