This question would probably be better answered in the 80-86 section, since it's not diesel related, so if you don't get an answer here you may want to try there. I'm ASSuming you have vacuum assist brakes and they are working, indicating your vacuum pump is OK.
There should be a vacuum line going from the engine compartment through the firewall, toward the passenger side of the engine comp. Make sure it is hooked up and has vacuum with the engine running. If it does, tear into the dash to the heater controls and see if you have vacuum there.

I'm pretty sure that is the vacuum line that i'm talking about, which is not hooked up to anything, which i'm baffled as to where it is supposed to go, plastic ball is what i've continued to hear.

There. Hope that works. Been in the middle of a move, and iPhone is surprisingly much more difficult than a computer to share photos etc. Anyway, if the link works you will see that the vacuum ball on the passenger fender has a hose that runs to a "T", with a slender hose going into the top of the heater box and a thicker hose going to the multi-port manifold on the fire wall. My truck also has the coffee can on the driver side fender, and its hose attaches to the same multi-port manifold. Hope this helps. My truck is an 86 F350 XL.
