oil mods

When restricting the oil in the heads with #90 Holley jets, how many jets are used? 1 per side or 2?

Thanks raptor, I've also read quite a few articles and the jet sizes recommend range from #69-#90? I drive for extended periods of time (over 1hr) over 3k rpm, what do you guys recommend?

Not sure Ihave a recommendation. I would error on the high side as you could starve the system with too small a jet. How small is too small? Not sure I know. I would install the 90 jet and call it good. It is a significant cut back from the original flow.

So why does so many people do this mod? Is it a must or just a good idea? I have ask several people that have had them for years and said they have never did it. Just curious.

I've never done it on my 428cj, original owner, and have never had a problem.

The original oiling design allows far more oil to flow to the rockers than is needed, which in turn can cause the crank and cam to get less than what is needed.
Restricting the feed to the rockers just insures that more oil gets to the crank, where it can of greater benefit.

On a stock FE that will rarely see north of 3,500 rpms i don't feel it's needed, but a lot of guys do it for "peace of mind".

Ok,,, here is the answer to your question.

Most FE's that are raced use high volume oil pumps to supply adequate amounts of oil to keep their engines alive at high rpms. At sustained high rpms, you can pump to much oil into the valve covers that starves the crank, and cam. The two most used fixes for this is a deep oil pan to hold more oil and or restrictors in the heads to reduce the amount of oil going to the valves. Most FE racers do both modifications to keep their engines alive, along with other modifications to the block for better oil flow. As what was said above, for an engine that is not seeing high rpm, the modifications are not needed.
