I'm doing the oil mod on the heads now. I have #80 Holley jets and stock heads. The jet just slips down into the hole, no resistance. Good? Bad?
Also, the hole in the jet and the hole in the head look about the same size. Need some guidance.
Nothing for me is ever cut and dried.
I have been following the saga on Scouder's 511 (incredible) and it is mentioned that the heads don't need a 3/8th hole for oil to come from, 1/16th is enough.
One of my heads (C6AE-R) is already restricted, looks like it came that way. The other head (C8AE-R) is not. As I've mentioned earlier, the jet goes in so easy that I'm afraid to install it. I'm tempted to button it back up and just have oil leaks.
Anybody care to comment?
I am assuming that you are installing the jet under the rocker shaft stand that supplies oil to the rockers. This is the typical location. I have never heard that they provide a tolerance fit or anything. They just drop in under the stand and bolt the stand on.
That makes sense. You drop it in and the oil pressure keeps it pushed in place. I had to make sure before I did that. Even though I'm learning, I've still put too much blood and sweat in my baby to do something questionable without asking an expert.
Are you building a monster truck or something?
Just a weekend toy. Something to cruise main, or take a ride in the hills. I did it's job with distinction all those years as a work truck, now it's getting it's reward.
Hello debestuss, on the rocker restrictors, first tap the angle passage with a 7/16" tap, anneal a short 7/16" allen set screw then drill to the restriction you want and install. I've made different sizes and settled on .059" orifice. Check all the rocker bores and shafts for wear as restrictive oiling and worn rocker assemblies will cause end rockers to run on marginal lubrication. Just another fix. I took a 3/8th allen set screw and filed the threads off, drilled a 3/32nd hole in it and ever so lightly tapped it into the oil port. There is enough rounded thread to back it out if the need ever arises but it's sealed off and won't be moving around. I checked the oil flow before reinstalling the valve covers and it flows fine. Thanks for all the advice.
