Got my new transmission installed (full manual valve body, reverse pattern, transbrake (art carr) Ford c6) installed the new shifter (b&m quicksilver)
hooked it all up as per directions. getting into park is tight. neutral, 1st, 2nd 3rd. is perfect. but i cant find reverse... at all. wondering if anyone can help me. this is a fresh rebuilt transmission, all components, lines, filter, fluid is new.
what i mean by cant find reverse is the truck runs and drives in every other gear, but i cannot find reverse at all, so im worried i have no reverse and what to check for to see if i do or not?
What happens if you disconnect the cable and shift it at the transmission?
Did just that today, does not have reverse going anywhere no matter what rev, played around with the kickdown assembly thats still attached but doesnt really have a purpose being that its full manual, still nothing, to the driveshaft, to the wheels, nothing.
K so after doing some google'ing, some guys have a problem with this when somethings up with the valve body, so decided to get underneath.
First i drained the oil, and wasnt happy that i saw clutch/shavings on the magnet. then i pulled the pan down, wasnt happy about it being all over the bottom of the pan. The rest of the pictures are for you to judge, if you can see a problem, please let me know. this truck has been off the road too long
just another quick question after another observation:
checked my torque converter to flywheel clearance, its between 11/32 to 3/8 clearance. if this is too spread out could this be the problem?
The torque converter is a Hughes, trying to figure out a way to shim the torque converter down to 1/8". Talked to the local c6 god named Frank Merkl this morning, he asked me if it was an external brake, which it is. he seems to think the problem why i cant find reverse is because i have to engage the brake in reverse, which kind of makes sense as ive never hooked it up. The transmission was built in vegas as well as 5 others. Brand new i bought it off of a fellow racer. I think I may have this resolved, just in the middle of putting it all back together lol
The pictures of the pan don't look good, I hope all that came out of the cooler instead of the trans. I appears to have some damage to some clutches from all the black debris. Maybe a air check of the direct and low reverse clutches with the valve body off will show something.
I'm still concerned about the shavings in the pan as well, but hard to say where it came from. but i buttoned it all together, hooked up the transbrake to the reverse lights on my shifter, good to go now.
