79 F150 Radiator

Wondering if I can get a bigger radiator. I bought this years ago I think at Autozone for my 73 F100 360/4spd, but now have it in my 79 F150 400/C6. Shows the same Spectre radiator for both trucks. It didn't ask if it had a/c or not. This was the biggest radiator they had. I think it's a 3 core, but I want more capacity for uphill towing in the heat.

Seems like some guys post pictures of under the hood and look to have bigger radiators than mine. (That sounds funny, but you know what I mean) It's tough to measure the radiator in the truck but it's roughly 19x27 and about 2.5 inches deep.

Thanks for any advice!

I think Fords "Super cooling" radiator measures out at approx. 25" tall and 27" wide, but i don't have one here to give you exact measurements.

Ford made the bigger ' Super cooling ' radiator, i have had a couple with it. One was in a super cab 150 /400 and the other was behind a 460. they both had air cond. I have one i was going to get recored but the shop told me since i had a 302 that it was more than i needed. So i had a smaller one repaired. I don't know if you can still buy them or not, i was having trouble locating a new one.

Not sure why sometimes I can spend time looking for something on the internet with little results and later sit down and do another search and right away find what you are looking for. Maybe I was searching cooler instead of cooling. Thanks Montana Highboy! Anyways, in the picture I found the smaller is definetly what I'm running now, and the new one is what I want, so I'll have to find someone selling it. Looks to be quite a difference.

I bought mine a little over a year ago from National Parts Depot.
Here's a picture of the original std cooling radiator in front of the super cooling version, you'll also need to change the shroud. If you have the std cooling from the factory you'll need to either change the core support or enlarge the hole for the radiator. The hole is smaller for std cooling but it has the correct wider mounting holes already. You'd need to trim the drivers side of the hole. The passenger and the top and bottom of the hole are okay.
If you want, I'll see if I can find the p/n that I ordered from NPD.

Thanks Mike. I checked them out. That's probably what I'll get. I'm running an electric fan so I don't have any issues with the shrouds. I'll have to see if one of my radiator supports is the size I need otherwise back to the junk yards.

No problem. I looked up my invoice from NPD. The part number I ordered was F-8005-545.
