Warming transfer case
Regarding the correct fluid, all the earlier Super Duty manuals say to use Mercon ATF. But as you may recall, Ford discontinued Mercon ATF, and certified Mercon V as a suitable replacement in the 4R100. But Mercon V is not suitable for the T/C. So they had a quandry, and that is when they started bottling the Transfer Case Fluid. Is it the same thing as the old Mercon ATF? IMO, probably. But regardless, Mercon ATF is still a proper fluid for the T/C.
Personally, I use Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF.
