does anyone know if there is a way for the consumer to get a lost door keypad lock combination code? Was on a piece of paper in the owners manual but we lost it.
Dealer wants $50 to plug in a computer and read it---this is highway robbery especially since it is under warranty! Stupid way to deliver the code to the owner on a loose piece of plastic/paper. Probably got thrown out with some old insurance papers.
If I have to spend money, can I buy an aftermarket code reader to obtain it?
H E L P ! ! ;-)
The code is printed on the rear of the SJB inside your center console. Take care and pry the trim piece around your gear shift. Remove the storage insert, use a screw driver where the console slops up. Depending on body style, you may have disconnect a connector to the top out of the way.
You may have to turn your key ON to move your gear shift out of park to ease the top out. The SJB is directly behind the fuse panel toward the front.
I just went through this about 2 weeks ago. See this website Escape-Central - door keypad code location and it should work for you as it did for me. Took 25 minutes or less, the code is a small print number at the corner of a part number tag and sort of looks insignificant - but it is there.
Success. Thanks for the help! Followed these instructions & it worked fine; the code was right there on the side of the gearshift area.
Missouri man, there's a cold beer in this for you next time you drive past Ottawa Canada! ;-)
So imagine that dealership trying to make a fast fifty bucks off of this on the premise that I needed a computer to read it! Bast--ds.
They probably would have charged you $100 to find the number in the console so in their minds their were doing you a favor at $50. These forums can be a great help!!
