my winsgield wipers do some weird things. doesnt matter if its fast or slow speed. Sometimes they will run forever no issue, sometimes they get stuck, then after a minute they will resume normal operation. Sometimes i joggle the switch from off to slow, sometimes that gets em going sometimes not. Any ideas?
Sounds like you may need a new wiper switch/turn signal.
*edit*
Just realized you have a 91, my apologies.
I would try checking at the motor for loose or damaged wires. But your saying if you play with the **** it works. Well I would grab a spare switch and try it out.
Any idea how much current it draws? The wires were replaced by the previous owner and seems i see some burn marks in areas, he used what seems like 14awg speaker wire
Loose magnets inside the wiper motor would do what you described. I went through 3 motors before finding what was going on.
Over the years the glue will degrade holding the magnets in place. They will move around slowing down the wipers then stopping. Sometimes messing with the switch will cause the motor to rotate enough so the magents get back in proper timing for the armiture.
I cleaned out the motor case and re-epoxied the magents back in place. The 1st motor I didn't get the magnets in proper place and it would not run. The 2nd and 3rd motors are working to this day!
Eddie i think you hit the nail on the head. wipers started behaving weird soon after turned on today, turned off while turning left, turned back on when i popped the clutch a bit, got stuck slowing down, turned back on when i bumped the truck a bit.
loose magnets? ill tr yot take it apart tomorrow and see what sup in there
