My old air compressor finally packed it in (pumping a lot of oil and very very slow to build) . I have been wanting a new and larger unit and am to cheap to buy one I decided to assemble one from parts . 60 gallon tank for $25.00 , new pump for $325.00 , my old motor , switch , regulator , gauges , etc. Welded up a frame to mount the workings on . Works like a charm , now I just have to plumb garage .
Nice job! I did a very similar with a smaller, oilless vertical compressor setup. Not sure it is really any cheaper but you can select good components. That pump you have is interesting, where did you get it? Is it multi-stage?
I bought some air tools from a guy that did the same thing, but with a HF single cyl. pump. Worked well and was so much quieter than my oilless I was surprised and impressed.
For an outlay of $350.00 Ibuilt the equivilant of a $1000.00 compressor . The pump is a 3 cyl single stage Rolair Cast iron made in the states .Very quiet and fast . We don't have Harbor Freight here .

Nice job, if my compressor (I should say when) dies I'll do something like that. the compressor pump looks like it would work good.
my old compressor with wheels (27 gal ? I think) I turned into a sandblast setup. haven't used it in a while though.
