HELP Compass Calibration
Can someone please be so kind as to type the instructions to calibrate the compass?? I've tried everything I know based on other newsgroups, but I really need the detailed instructions.
Thanks in advance for your time.
Dave
Stick the end of a paper clip in there and drive in a circle 2-3 time s until it reads normal.

I can't thank you all enough for your help!!

All checks should be made out to the Committee to Aid the Starving and Homeless (CASH) and mailed to P. O. box 449.....
(Just kidding..
)
I press the paperclip into the hole & it says "Zone 1". If I release & press the paperclip back in, I can change the zone. I have no idea what this does -- maybe set a zone relative to magnetic north since it isn't exactly what we all consider north?
Anyway, if I DON'T release & re-press during the "Zone" bit, It shows the compass with "CAL" under it (calibrate, I assume). So, I drove in circles until the CAL goes away. But, when it does, the compass reverts to the whacked-out directions it had originally. I tried going slowly, going quickly, even rotating the module by hand!
Can I get a little more detail about what exactly I should do about this? PLEASE!?
It turned out that the black module you're sticking the clip into failed and had to be replaced. It was under warrenty so I'm not sure what it cost. At the time the part was back ordered and the service rep. said there was a "run" on them . I've seen this complaint come up on other sites as well.
It's probably reading 180 degrees out but in a weired way.
Please let us know how much that thing costs. It's easy to replace. There's a connector similar to a phone connector that plugs into it and the unit clips to the mirror.
I used to have my old one floating around on my desk here but just threw it out a month ago. The two halves of the unit clip together. I opened it up just to see what was inside. It's a bunch of surface mount components with a little microprocessor.
Hope this helps---Bob
