Can you tell me what this data says?
Does this have to do with the options that make it an explorer?

Thanks again!
Not really, the "HB" trim code might be exclusively for the Explorer because Explorers had a unique interior that was exclusive only to Explorers.
The Explorer was actually trim and option package group that could be ordered on just about any truck. Usually it was ordered to upgrade the base "Custom" trim level. I've personally seen "Ranger" Explorers and have heard of, but never seen, "Ranger XLT" Explorers. To me that one doesn't make sense because it would be an interior downgrade.
The Explorer package itself came in four different versions: Explorer package A, B, C, and D. The basic "A" package included Explorer specific interior, exterior body graphics (stripes), front bumper guards, front bumper horizontal rub strips, bright windshield and drip rail mouldings, mag style wheel covers, bright bed rails (8' bed) or tie downs (6 3/4' bed), swing-lok mirrors. The Explorer could be ordered any standard color but it had some paint colors that were Explorer only.
Package B was all of the above plus power steering and automatic transmission.
Package C added air conditioning and tinted glass.
Package D added the Ford fiberglass topper and deleted the bed rails.
The truck has ps, autoT, and air. The the glass, I cannot say, it's tilted now. The engine has been swapped out with a factory ford 302 back in 2003. I just got the truck on 10/26/12. Does the explorer designation help or hurt with the value? I was hesitant to buy because of the engine swap, but it is a great running truck. The second owner had it since 1980 and he took great care of it.

Kind of neutral, sometime people who are selling an Explorer act like it's rare and desirable. It's generally considered a plus but, in my opinion, doesn't really add a lot to the value. With the exception of the few Explorer specific trim and paint options, you could get any of the package options on any truck.
Glad to help. BTW, welcome to FTE. There are a lot of good, knowledgeable people here. If you have a question, just post it and someone will be along with an answer.
I need to correct a mistake in the warranty plate decode.
This morning Bill (Numberdummy) caught my mistake. The trim code I used to decode the "HB" is for Econoline, not the F series . Under the F series designation it doesn't show an "HB" code. I don't have any info on what code "HB" designates for the F series, Bill didn't find anything either.
The "4" does, however, mean styleside pickup bed.
Edit: I looked at the trim codes. For the '77 Explorer, blue all vinyl interior is code "NB", blue vinyl and cloth is code "MB".
Thanks for the update. I can see this can be confusing when trying to go back that far. I did review you project thread. Amazing!! What you are doing in incredible. Other then this site (very informative) where can I look for info?

Thanks, I edited my last response with some additional info.
As far as more info, a good place to start is the FACTORY parts catalogs and shop manuals (Not Chilton or Haynes). These are available on CD. I know hipoparts.com www.hipopoarts.com has the catalogs on CD, not sure about the shop manuals. Another good source for technical info is www.fordification.net .
Just a note, the shop manuals DON'T include electrical or vacuum diagrams, these are covered under separate publications.
