I put 4 1/2 quarts of the redline in and put the shifter back on. I didn't tighten the bellows cover down but put it in place. I drove it about 20 miles, it did seem a little quieter and the shifting seemed a little better too. The jury is still out on this though I did notice that when the shifter cover bellows thing was lifted up a little when just at idle it got a lot louder, I'm thinking about stuffing some kind of insulation or sound deadening material in that cover before I tighten it down. I won't be able to work on it for a couple of days though because I got grounded, can't go outside for 2 days
If the shifter boot is torn up at all or the white insulation piece under it is gone, it will let more noise in. Mine was missing the insulation piece and the plastic was broken that screws down to the floor. After I put the new boot in it was like I was in a new truck. It was WAY quieter.. You'd be surprised how much noise that thing cancels out.
Travis, my boot, inner insulator and plastic hold down plate are all in very good condition, I really expected to see more wear or the inner insulator, missing or damaged. I also found a huge difference when boot was raised up just a little while running in neutral. So that is why a little more insulation or noise deadening material just might help. Any suggestions on what to use?
