Dumbest Question Ever Thread

Just getting ready to pull the shifter off so I can put 4 qts of redline in, I got one bolt left and thought I better ask now before I take it out. Should the shifter be in any special gear when I pull it out?

Is your gear rollover bad Rich? Mine is, I'm thinking about putting a bottle of the Lucas auto trans stuff in it to see if it will quiet it down some.

I can live with the rollover its way better than it was. I have had this truck for 6 years my first PSD, and have not changed the fluid in the trans. The p o had most of the service done at the ford dealer, so was maintained pretty well. The problem I would like to go away is the difficultly I have getting it to go in gear when stopped and needing to shift to first or reverse, I don't really think this is the problem but I can always hope it gets a little better.

I can't think of any reason not to try the Lucas, just remember to take a quart out if your still running 5. I've heard a lot of people like that Lucas but thats mostly from what I have read on FTE so you know that too. Don't ask Glenn though

Ya, I did the heim a little over 2 years ago. I think the clutch is disengaging good and it engages at a little over half peddle letting it out.

Its best to pull it in neutral, but if you accidently pull it in gear, you can pop it into neutral with a screw driver.

Disappointed. Far far far from the dumbest question ever. Not even in the top 50.....

I put 4 1/2 quarts of the redline in and put the shifter back on. I didn't tighten the bellows cover down but put it in place. I drove it about 20 miles, it did seem a little quieter and the shifting seemed a little better too. The jury is still out on this though I did notice that when the shifter cover bellows thing was lifted up a little when just at idle it got a lot louder, I'm thinking about stuffing some kind of insulation or sound deadening material in that cover before I tighten it down. I won't be able to work on it for a couple of days though because I got grounded, can't go outside for 2 days
