Just came across this thread and I am having a similar issue with my E-450. Where in the vehicle is the relay? Do you have a picture or description of its location?

Edit: I found it. It is located in the dash to the right of the steering column. You can see it if you take the lower panel off and look up. Getting it out of the metal bracket is a pain
