I have a 2007 F250 with about 77000 miles on it. I bought it with about 65000 or so. I work around alot of wrecker drivers and have heard many say bad things about the 6.0 as far as it blowing its own heads. I then talked to a few people that have told me that in late 2006 a "second version" of the 6.0 was produce that was less problematic. Could this be true?
If not what should i be looking for as far as signs that the end is near on my motor or about when that happens?
I don't tow very many things and I'm planning on getting it high enough to put a good size tire on it.
Does the truck currently have ANY issues, driveability or otherwise? If the answer is NO, I say don't fix what isn't broken. Just drive it and enjoy it. Read up on the in's and out's of these trucks and keep an eye on things. But don't go spending money needlessly like a lot of folks seem to do. It ceaselessly amazes me how many people are ready to jump the gun to spend obscene amounts of money to "fix" these problems that they read when they aren't even happening to begin with.

That's the problem right there. Instead of leaving things alone they go about "upgrading" and changing things and then guess what? Issues start popping up left and right that may have never occurred if the engine was just left alone.
I plan on running either a 37" or 35" tire for a beefier look. Also i was thinking a Programer, intake and exhaust. Not to make a butt load of power but just to make it run more efficiently. I do a lot of just high way miles and rarely run over 70mph. looking more to make my truck a go anywhere do anything truck. Just dont want to do any damage that could have been avoided. I love my truck and plan on keeping it a very long time.
Why isn't that the most important and first modifiation any 6.0 owner should do? Otherwise you could be causing catastrophic engine damage and not know it...
There is nothing to do to the intake on the 6.0. Keep the stock filter.

And there again, is another BIG money waster right there.
You know, I had this tow truck in my bay today for a Check Engine light on diagnosis. It was a 2011 F-350 dually with all warranty cancelled on it, but that's another story. The conversation I had with the driver was interesting to say the least. He actually asked me if there was anything he could/should do to make it go faster. His complaint was that other trucks were beating him to accident scenes. He complained that he couldn't go any faster than 150 km/h, at which point I very quickly clarified that these trucks are governed limited to 153 km/h and for a reason. He asked me what he could do to make it more powerful/faster. These 6.7L trucks are already 400 bhp/800 ft-lbs. from the factory!!!
