Remote control for tailgate window

Has anyone had a remote control wired up for the rear window? Just an idea I was thinking earlier...... key chain remote, beefy wiring and relay to motor with remote good from the drivers seat, the back or the house! Any thoughts??

You would need either a time delay relay or a method of killing power to the window motor once it reaches full up or full down. You will also need to make absolutely certain that any remote (wireless trigger) is wired in beyond the safety interlock or you run the risk of damaging or destroying the glass. The safety interlock that Ford built into the tailgate window glass operation protects the glass from being damaged in the event the gate is not fully closed.

Not sure what you are attempting to accomplish with the project. You can already lower the window from the driver's seat. But, if you want to make it happen, go for it.

You won't really need to add a lot of wiring. Ford already did that for you. The relay and the receiver for the keyfob transmitter are about the only things you will need to wire in. A standard 30 amp automotive relay (just like the ones Ford put in the under-hood power distribution box) will be more than sufficient to accomplish the job.

This would be a nifty feature but it really doesn't serve a purpose. My 2010 Ram actually can lower the windows from the remote but it wont roll them up in case there is something in the way. I never actually use it, more a novelty trick for friends.

As Greystreak said, you can already lower the window from the drivers seat assuming your switch is working.

There are aftermarket car alarms out there that can roll up windows, not sure if they can roll them down, they just add some type of module to each window. pretty pricey though

There was a guy that did this in the fullsizebronco.com forum. Pretty neat, he used a button on his keyless entry fob to roll it down. Wouldn't roll it up, just down, but that's what you need if your hands are full and you need to drop some groceries in the rear.

It didn't look too bad and he has wiring diagrams of what he did.

Here's the video of it working. It really wasn't that hard. If your RSKE module has a trunk button, it's probably energized as long as the button is pressed. If so, then you can tap that into your rear window switch and it'll work like a champ.
