When the 78 / 79 bronco came out I thought there was an after market conversion kit available to convert the bronco to a pickup . By removing the fiberglass top and replacing it with a rear cab panel that I assume was fiberglass , making a neat short box pickup . Was there such a thing or was that one of my dreams ? I tried the search but was unable to come up with anything, maybe I never used the right words . Thanks Jim
They did make these for quite a while, but as far as I understand, they've been discontinued for several years. The company that made them went out of business, or something along those lines.
You can probably find them for sale used, but that's about it.
I'm sure someone will know the actual company name and chime in, which should quickly lead you to pics and such.
I think they had both versions, one with a bed cover, and one that went all the way down to make the back like a small pickup.
I don't believe they are available anymore, but the sites still up. Worth contacting though, just in case.
I checked out the'skyler top' they look to be well made and must be avalible as they had a price list. Not quiet what I am looking for . They are a soft top covering the back and out over the box area. I would like to just cover the back down to the floor , then seal it good and leave the box area open. I could see how they made the framing that bolts on where the original top does . Maybe I can do something like that and weld a back section from a pickup cab to it , making it removable if I want to . Something to think and dream about I guess.
Check our dear sponsor: Jeff's Bronco Graveyard, apparently they resurrected one of those conversion kit brands (their catalog shows a conversion kit).
Heh, I'm going crazy on this, because I have seen one. I just can't find the pictures. I thought someone made a kit and thought it was Skyler, but maybe not.
I did see one where a guy took the Bronco top and fastened a back window onto it, and then created a metal plate that fit down around in the bed, which completely sealed off the front and back. I think it was all fab work on this one though (done very nicely if I might add.)
Download the catalog (80/96 Bronco) from Jeff's and check page 160... There probably will be one also for the 78/79 Bronco, if there isn't one already.

I like the one made for the early bronco, I saw one here localy that was on a Internatianal scout , that was about the same size as the early bronco. Thats what got me to thinking about the 78 / 79 bronco. All I found on 'Bronco Graveyard ' was a soft top for 80 and newer. I never down loaded there catlog , just went by there home page listings. I am thinking about building one. I have two cabs, one is a 83 ranger and the other is a 79 F-150. I haven't taken any measurements yet, waiting for better weather, looks like we are getting snow today.
Old thread, I know. I recently purchased a 79 Bronco with this conversion. Fiberglass piece with a sliding rear window. I dont want this look, but I cant find an original top that is reasonably priced. The conversion kit does exist!!!
You can try finding someone that wants to do the swap, your conversion kit for his top, then it would cost you nothing, or you could even earn some $$$ out of it.

Where are you located? I would check around craigslist, over here in Washington I have seen a posting that has been hanging around with someone selling a 78-9 top. You can also check the junk yards to see what they have.
Yes, the original manufacturer of the conversion was "Creative Products of Minnesota". They have not produced the conversion in over 20 years. The hole for the sliding glass window is sized to accept any full-size pick-up truck rear window of the era. A few years back, Jeff's Bronco Graveyard went so far as to announce that they had bought the tooling and the rights to produce the conversions again in one of their catalogues. However, the conversions have yet to be seen from JBG.
In searching for a Bronco top from a 78-79, keep your eyes peeled any time you get out in the sticks. I can't tell you how many old Bronco tops I've seen just lying around in a field or next to a farmer's old barn. Finding one in a salvage yard these days is a long shot unless you have a local salvage yard that deals in such old vehicles but certainly don't fail to check.
Thank you for the responses. I found one for a 79 in a salvage yard, can get it for $150. Trying to save up before its gone. I just read the rear seats are interchangeable 78 - 96, found a lot of those. I read the top was not interchangeable. The tops at another salvage yard are only $50 but they only have 80 and up.
