I'm in the processs of disassembling my transmission from a 2001 f250 powerstroke cause the mechanical diode blew up and I can't get thhe front pump to budge I threaded two slide hammers into the two holes with threads all the way down but will not even budge. The filter is out and I just can't see what else could be holding it. It seems like it just slides right out for ever one and I've got 5lb hammers on it and it won't move if any one has any ideas it would be greatly appreciated
Maybe the slide hammer is threaded into the case threads as well?
Try - Pull the input shaft about half way out and lightly hit it with a rubber mallet from side to side to work the pump loose. I can get just about all of these pumps out like that.
I thought that might be the problem so I only threaded it in a couple turns but ill try putting the shaft back in and working it around its my first transmission so I'm sure ill have more questions but thank you for your quick response
Trans is all taken apart I was being dumb and used the pump bolts to figure out what size bolts to use for the slide hammer adapters so I was pulling on the case not the pump as soon as I used the right ones pump came right out everything else went really smooth
Got the trans back in today but all I have is forward gears neutral park and reverse are all forward gears I was just wondering if anyone knew what the problem is my guess the manual lever position sensor wrong solenoid pack or I got a check ball in the wrong spot
Thanks I did have that hooked up wrong so I fixed that problem but may have caused another
Now I have no reverse and seems to slip and not want to move in forward gears I think it might have something to do with line pressure since it takes more pressure to operate reverse hoping I used the wrong gasket or have a check ball in the wrong place really hope the valve in the pump isn't sticking so I don't have to pull the transmission again I can't seem to find a pressure gauge instock anywhere so I'm gonna order one tonight
I dropped the pan and valve body seems like all check ***** are in the right spot air checks were good so all that's left is wrong gasket or stuck valve in the pump that's all I can think of anyone else have any ideas
Checking the line pressure or removing a cooler line to see if the pump is even working would help to decide whether or not to pull it back out. I don't see many stuck PR valves in this transmission.
ill try disconnecting a cooler line in the morning i put new pump gears in it .427 line valve in accumulator body superior shift kit two the plastic valve in the stator two other valves in the pump cant remember what their called offhand the pump is actually the only part i had a tranny guy rebuild so i kinda doubt he did it wrong
he lent me a tool to measure the end play to make sure all the clutches were seated and i triple checked that the tourque converter was seated into the pump just this is just a project for somethin to do while laid off so i dont really have any money to just bring it into the shop so thanks for all your help man
So I pulled the cooler line and no fluid is moving through it so I guess trans has to come out again ill be pulling it tomorrow so if you have any other ideas please stop me
I used an air compressor gauge as a line pressure gauge which I think should be ok I the pressure is bouncing between 15-25 psi if I shift into reverse it drops off to zero so I don't think I could've striped the pump cause I wouldn't have any pressure right?
As to what's wrong, it is academic now. SOMETHING is broken and it isn't going to get fixed in the truck. With zero pressure in reverse something mechanical is wrong. 15-25 PSI also shows that there is a big problem.
Striping splines never hurts unless you use too much paint to make the stripes. Stripping the splines is a BIG no-no.
