Well, the old column has had a good run but it's in pretty sorry shape now. Apparently a gorilla owned my truck before me and swung by the wheel to get up into the truck so now the wheel wobbles. Also the turn signals don't cancel and the cruise control doesn't work.
I looked at a couple of junkyards today and there's some hit and miss XLT Lariat columns, one is tight as can be but the wheel is all chewed up. But by the time I take mine out and install the junk yard one, who says the cruise or turn signals will work on that one?
So can I rebuild my current column, what about an aftermarket universal ididit style column? Other options? Maybe there's a warehouse of NOS columns out there somewhere?
You can fix the turn signals and cruise by replacing the multifunction switch. If the salvage yard has a tight colum you should but it and install your steering wheel with a new multifunction switch.
I wonder, since the truck has Speed Control, if it also has a Tilt Wheel as most trucks came with both.
Many people are unaware their 1978/91 F100/350's & Bronco's have a tilt wheel because it's operated by pushing the turn signal handle forward.
GM/ChryCo's have a separate tilt wheel lever that Ford didn't adopt until 1992.
Hey Bill, I don't see you up here nearly as much in the modern truck area. Yes, it has tilt. The tilt feature is well disguised, I only know because this is my second bricknose.
