The tilt wheel on my 89 f-150 doesnt seem to be working anymore, in fact i didnt even realize it was a tilt wheel until my dad told me it was, so i looked up in the manual how to change the position by pushing the turn signal lever foward. It doesnt work though. I guessits stuck its stuck or rusted, should i spray some WD-40 in there or something? i guess its not really a big deal but i kinda wanted to make it work again.
It may not be, does the wheel stick way up almost flat? If so the it is, if not it just LOOKS like it is, they used the same trim piece on the steering column for both.
Don't feel bad, I had my truck for a year and a half before I found out I had tilt. You may just have to break it loose. The first time I did it I thought I was going to break the turn signal, worked just fine after that.
It has cruise control, and the window sticker from it says it came with tilt wheel, and my dad who owned it before said it was tilt. I'll try and break it free, i am afraid of breaking the turn signal lever like ford truck racer said though. It just seems really stuck.

My dad had is 79 F-250 for 20 years and didn't know the wheel tilted. It was the same colum that was in my 83.

Why don't you fix it? That's like saying "My tires are worn out, so I'm not going to drive my truck."
I've already spent too much money on this truck. I can't keep up with the things that go wrong with it. I finish fixing one thing, then something else falls apart.
I'd sell it, but I've put way too much money into it to make it worth my while.
I will get around to fixing the tilt problem eventually, but I'm sure the whole steering column will have to be ripped apart.
First I have to figure out why it revs between shifts, and put a new headlight switch in it. After that, I may even figure out what that clicking noise in the back end is. But all that has to wait while I put new bushings in the clutch pedal.
I only hope once all this work is done I can get a few years out of it.
I'd be more concerned with the rear end... If you pay the shipping, I'll GIVE you a headlight switch. Have you pulled the codes? You may have a bad TPS or IAC. Then again, it could just be a sticky throttle cable or pedal.
Thanks, but I've already bought a headlight switch. The rear end clicking only happens when I go around a corner. It doesn't sound serious, just bothersome. There is a possibility it is my bed liner, which seems to make some noise when I jump up and down in the bed, but I'm just not sure.
I pulled the front driveshaft and replaced the u-joints a while ago. Maybe I should do the same with the rear.
I know it sounds like I hate this truck, but it's actually quite nice. It's just killing me financially. I had to have the motor rebuilt after driving it less than 1000 kilometres.
I guess I should have bought something a bit newer, but the 7.5-foot Western Pro plow that came with it was in excellent condition and the truck LOOKED and drove like it was in quite good condition.
Sounds like the differential pinion shaft is worn from having low or contaminated oil at one time. Have you checked/filled/changed the rear axle oil? Does the ABS still work?
No, I haven't checked the rear end. That's the one thing I haven't done. My ABS light was unplugged under the dash. I plugged it in and now it's on all the time.
thanks for the advice though. I'll check the fluid level and see what the story is.
