My 83 f250 had a problem with burning oil, my mechanic told me that the valve covers on the truck were cheap and didn't have baffles. Apparently, this was causing the engine to burn oil. I am looking through a catalog now for some new chrome valve covers that have baffles. Could somebody please tell me what baffles are and what they do? Thanks a lot.
The baffles he is referring to are metal plates that are just below where the oil cap is attached.
If the valve cover has a baffle, you can only see a piece of metal when you pull the oil cap off.
If it doesn't havea baffle, you could see the rockers arms by looking through the hole.
The lack of having a baffle allows for oil to be blown out the oil cap instead of hitting the baffle and dripping back down into the oil galley.
