I've been doing a frame off restoration of my 1977 F150 4wd. Now time to install the engine and motor mounts. The engine is now bolted up to the transmission (NP435) but the motor mounts will not fit between the brackets/perches. I have rechecked parts numbers on the mounts and they are correct. I looked at pictures from the teardown and everything else seems to be correct.
Has anyone else had this problem? Is there much variance in specs from brand to brand?
I even tried removing both perches with the engine lifted very high then attaching mounts and perches loosely to the engine and then lowered the whole thing down into the frame. It just binds up and the engine looks to be too high.
There is some flex to the motor mounts, and they can sometimes be a pain to line up right. However, I've heard of issues with pre-80 trucks getting incorrect motor mounts. They seem to list the part numbers for 80+ trucks (which have the TTB) as also working for the pre-80 trucks, but I don't believe they do.
Can you post some pictures of what you're up against? It would really help.
I talked to a tech at Anchor. He advised that some of these trucks like mine used different mounts. I think he described them as "older mounts". The part numbers are 2331 and 2332 instead of the numbers that come up in regular searches which are 2441 and 2442. I will have the new ones in hand in about two hours and then we will see if this solves the problem.
I will post results later this evening. I sure wish Anchor would make a note in their online catalog and tell their dealers about this.
Well, these motor mounts did the trick! Of course I would forget the camera. I did have the phone camera so I did get a few pics even though the quality is not that great. Not much to see anyway. Kinda of looks like motor mounts. Oh well! I sure hope someone with this situation finds this thread so they don't have to go through what I did!
I guess I don't know how to get pics from my gallery but you can see the mounts there.
