Anyone out there have fits installing the passenger side motor mount. I have been without wheels for 5 months now and finally, yesterday, my ex-wife's husband (I know sounds weird but we get along great and he's a pretty cool motor-head himself) trailer-ed down an engine hoist and after stabbing in the engine (as a short-block to make things easier), all of us, four grown men and longtime mechanics couldn't get the pass side mount on. I could mount it to the block (using a pry-bar, ) to get the upper bolt hole to line up. I cannot get it to line up with the frame bracket.
What gives the 'Zone' numbers are 2441, Duralast R/H and:
2442, Duralast L/H
Kragen/O'Riley's numbers are the same. I threw out the old mounts because I wasn't thinking far enough ahead nor anticipating a problem but I have been online and see that at least in the illustration, mounts for a 75 model year look more like my old mounts than the new ones I bought (crappy ill-fitting made in China junk). YES, my truck is a 77, positive. What gives? Any help guys? I'd really like to get the head back on today and button 'ol 'Big Red' back up. These 53 year old knees are tired of walking.
Thanks Fellas and Ladies. Mike.
I don't know if much of this will help you, but you're not the first person who's had a difficult time with motor mounts on a pre-80 300. It seems that most places list the same motor mount for the later and earlier year trucks, even though the frames are completely different. Up until 1980, all the front axles were solid axles, and then in '80, they switched to the TTB design, and required different motor mounts.
I'm not sure who sells the correct pre-80 motor mounts, but that may explain your frustration.
Good One Restorer! Think I just may have a shot at getting the valves right this time. Just wondering, are you driving the engine that is in the picture on your signature. Sweet Engine. How"s all the goodies doing for all out get up and go ? I'd really like to go cam, Offy, 390 CFM, headers and all the good stuff but I drive like an old lady and baby the crap outta "Big Red". I know that at least stock and tuned.....the old boy will get me anywhere I want to go and bring me back. Most reliable vehicle (and first truck) I ever owned.
I found out that the deal with the engine mounts was a before and after VIN number deal. Yeah I have the twin I-beam in front. Not a very comfy ride but it wasn't built to be a touring sedan.

Reason: Ommited some info
If it's good for you, then that's all that matters. Enjoy. Just a side note: You'll find with these engines, with mods like mine, they still get about the same mpg as oem!! But everyone likes something different. That's what makes the world an interesting place.
