Thanks for the input, guys... the manager at my local carquest was really shocked when I refused to buy a WIX filter... said he's got a local road construction company with a fleet of 6.0L trucks and all they put in them is the WIX filters and they've never complained... Personally I trust you guys more, though, and I'm not gonna put a WIX in there... I didn't think about calling my local dealer earlier, so I'll call them in the morning and see if they have some sort of courier service that could bring one over. I know the local mechanics get parts from them sometimes, so I assume they courier them. Worst case I'll just not use the truck this weekend and wait to get a new filter on Monday. Realized I don't have anything "clean" in which to keep the drained oil, so there's really no point in trying to reuse the old stuff.

Most/all dealers have a courtesy shuttle service.
If you have cash, ask them to swing buy with a tip.
Otherwise get a ride to/from the dealer.

Davbeisner,
How goes the project? Have you been able to get a filter
for it yet? Let us know how is't going.

Got a filter... just about to start the project when a dealer in Denver called and said he had received my credit app and had about 10 or 15 trucks that fit my needs in my price range... so put everything back together, filled back up with coolant, and hit the road. Unplugged my SGII for the five hour drive to Denver (up and over the divide) cause I didn't want to keep looking at the delta and freaking out... plugged it back in as I pulled into the dealer's lot and it was at 45!

Hate to be this way, but it's his problem now... I test drove five trucks, and the first four ALL had plugged oil coolers. One had a BPD egr delete. Nice truck. But it also had a plugged oil cooler, so had to pass. #5 ended up being the ticket for me cause it was clean across the board mechanically, and though it was only a 250 not a 350, had everything else I was looking for.
