I have a 1979 F-100, 460, C-6 and the transmission will not shift out of first, I am taking it in to a local transmission shop to get fixed but I am new to the area and don't know how honest or reputable they are so I was wanting to go in there with a little knowledge of what could be causing it not to shift out of first gear so I don't get ripped off. A new C-6 from TCI cost $1,139 so I don't want to spend anywhere near that at the transmission shop so does anyone know what could be the problem with my transmission and what is a fair price to fix it. Thanks
you can get a c-6 rebuilt for $350-$600 and it might possibly be either A... low on fluid or B... vacuum modulator is bad........... these are the only things i have had happen personally that gave similar results and most of the time when the tranny went out i had 1st and 3rd just no 2nd but these are just my opinions
It could be a disconnected vacuum line to the modulator, a bad modulator, a stuck governor, or a stuck shift valve. If the fluid looks and smells normal that usually rules out internal damage. If the fluid is black or stinky, then you probably will need a rebuild.
Thanks for the replies, I'm gonna take it to the shop and see what they say, and if they give me a bloated price then I will consider a new Street Fighter from TCI although I do not want to drop amount of cash right now on this truck I might have to, hopefully it's something simple and cheap if that exists
