I recently picked up an 82 F150 4x4 with a 302 and C6. If I put it in drive It shifts really late from 1st to 2nd, at around 35 mph and clunks. 2nd-3rd isn't too bad, around 55mph, but that still seems a tad late to me. The transmission shifts fine if I manually shift through the gears with the selector. Also the kickdown seems to work as it should, and downshifts smoothly.
So far I've just flushed the transmission and put new fluid in (old fluid was dark and truck had been sitting for a year or so). My next thought is maybe the vacuum modulator? I read on here that if the vac line is pulled off and fluid comes out it's shot. I was going to do that and then I noticed that the vac line isn't hooked up to anything.
Would no vacuum to the modulator cause my transmission to act up this much in Drive?
