V-10 Mods

I recently picked up a 00 250SD with the V-10 and am looking to get more hp/tq for towing. The truck only has 49,000 miles on it now and I am going to be working out of it so I really don't want to get into any internals yet, just looking to see if anyone out there has a proven programmer/intake/exhaust combination to use as a starting point.Reliability is definitely an issue in this case as truck is driven daily.

Welcome to FTE.

Sounds like you find a real nice piece. Start with contacting 5 Star tuning. You can get a tuner and new Y pipe there that helps out a ton. Great folks to deal with also. Post up some pics if you have any. From what I've read there isn't much else that helps a ton.

Yes, get in touch with Mike at 5-Star. I know it is hard to believe, but you truly will see more power and MPG.

If you aren't convinced, Mike offers a money back guarantee.

An air intake won't do much for ya and isn't worth the money in the end IMO. Buy the 5 star tuning, get a y-pipe, 6.0 trans cooler and gears if needed. Best bang for your buck!

I also recommend the Zoodad mod. It is free and, in my opinion, effective. Anything that gets cooler air into the engine will help. In addition, I also plugged the two holes in the air cleaner housing (using two body plugs from behind a Ranger seat) to keep out engine compartment heated air. In the pic below you can see the two holes I cut (just above the fog light) for the Zoodad mod. This is one of the mods I have done, and my truck gets 16 MPG on the highway with 4.30 gears.

That's not the first time I've heard that aftermarket intakes don't do a whole lot for the price. 16mpg(15 even) would be nice to see! What else have you done, other than zoodad mod,to achieve that good mpg??!!???
