I'm looking at a '01 F250 Ext.cab, shrotbed, AT, Lariat, loaded, nerf bars, billet grille, excellent condition, good tires, 108,000 miles, $11,800. Carfax reports is clean, looks like a good deal. I live in Alaska and plan on using it to haul toys, and be a daily driver to some degree. It really is a nice looking truck, l'm a long time ford guy, but know nothing about the V10. Any input would be great, thanks
You will get several replies to your question. There are guys here that have put 200,000+ miles on their v10's and have had no problems. I have a 1999 that I bought new, it only has 62,000 miles on it. I had one problem with it when I first got it, I don't even remember what the problem was, but it was fixed under warranty and I haven't had a problem with it since.
I drive 60 miles round trip to work so there is no way I could have mine as a daily driver, it's a 3/4 ton v10 engine so gas mileage is what it is.
I think starting in 2004 the v10 got changed to a 3 valve motor so it has a lot more power/torque now so you may want to consider that.
Erik, welcome to the site. Sounds like a good price. Have the dealer run an Oasis report too. If you can get the maintenence schedule the truck was run under would be helpful too. Good luck with your purchase decision.
The V10's are THRISTY. On the otherhand they are very powerful. I have an 01 crew cab which I use as a daily driver, on the highway, hauling, towing, and off road and I love it. My next truck will be a powerstroke, but I love the V10. There are only a few mods that really bring out anymore power out of the V10 such as intake/exhaust and chips/tuners. Like I said I love mine and I think you will be happy with one.
That is a great price for that truck. Very Fair indeed. The V10 is a great engine. Very depedable with plenty of power. For a gas engine it is a torque monster. Service records would be great. Anytime you get that high in milage, it is noce to know what has been done.
Also, the 3 valvers came out in 2005 but you are not getting one of those for $11K!
You might want to find out what rear gear ratio it has. The taller the better for a V10. I have the 3.73 and I wish all day and twice on sunday I had the 4.30's. You can tell by the option code sticker on the door jamb and check out the super duty forum and look at the decifer you VIN sticky and scroll down to the door sticker options. It will tell you what ratio and if it is limited slip or open differential.
As far as their thirst, it is a 7000 pound truck built for work. I get 12-14 mpg in mixed driving. That is very efficient for such a big truck.
Thanks guys, I'm at work on nights so the wife went to take a looked at it; liked it and payed the man. Time will tell how good of a deal we got. With in the last 2k miles he did a full check up at which time the changed the plugs.
She sent me a picture, it's in my gallery

I drive mine 60+ miles everyday as my daily driver. It costs me about $100-$120 per week in fuel, but I love it and I wouldn't trade it for anything. Except maybe an 07 3V!!!
