V-10 Mods

I recently picked up a 00 250SD with the V-10 and am looking to get more hp/tq for towing. The truck only has 49,000 miles on it now and I am going to be working out of it so I really don't want to get into any internals yet, just looking to see if anyone out there has a proven programmer/intake/exhaust combination to use as a starting point.Reliability is definitely an issue in this case as truck is driven daily.

Welcome to FTE.:-drink

Sounds like you find a real nice piece. Start with contacting 5 Star tuning. You can get a tuner and new Y pipe there that helps out a ton. Great folks to deal with also. Post up some pics if you have any. From what I've read there isn't much else that helps a ton.

Yes, get in touch with Mike at 5-Star. I know it is hard to believe, but you truly will see more power and MPG. :-X22

If you aren't convinced, Mike offers a money back guarantee. :-drink

Sounds like I'll start with programmer and see what five star recommends for exhaust and intake setup. Will post some pics this week!

An air intake won't do much for ya and isn't worth the money in the end IMO. Buy the 5 star tuning, get a y-pipe, 6.0 trans cooler and gears if needed. Best bang for your buck!

I also recommend the Zoodad mod. It is free and, in my opinion, effective. Anything that gets cooler air into the engine will help. In addition, I also plugged the two holes in the air cleaner housing (using two body plugs from behind a Ranger seat) to keep out engine compartment heated air. In the pic below you can see the two holes I cut (just above the fog light) for the Zoodad mod. This is one of the mods I have done, and my truck gets 16 MPG on the highway with 4.30 gears. :-jammin

That's not the first time I've heard that aftermarket intakes don't do a whole lot for the price. 16mpg(15 even) would be nice to see! What else have you done, other than zoodad mod,to achieve that good mpg??!!???
