Block Heater replacement

I have a 2006 f350 that did not have the cord installed on the block heater. Over time, something has happened to break the thread part of the element. So looks like I have to replace the whole thing. Does this mean that I am going to need to drain the anti-freeze?

Swapping to 5W40 is the biggest help in the winter. I never plugged my 05 in, even down to -15. I have no intentions to plug my 06 in either.

Even at -15F, my gasser warms up pretty quickly.

I live in alaska and don't have the heater... Even at -50, my V-10 fires right up. The 5W-40 helps I'm sure.

0w-20,battery heater plus being plugged in helps the 5.4 a lot.
After -20f it has trouble starting.
Something to do with the relays.

My '03 doesn't have any issues starting in the cold, except last year when the factory battery finally needed replaced. But, plugging in when it's cold should be better for the truck... if only I had a plug. I'm planning on adding one this year.
