Block Heater Installation

I purchased a 2006 F250 6.0 Diesel in California and have since moved to MO. With the cold weather my F250 just doesnt want to start. I am told I need a block heater and it will take care of this.

I have been round and round with several sources and need some confirmation. Some say ALL 06 F250 Diesels were installed with the heater but not the wiring..

Where do I look to see if I have the heater and/or wiring harness?

Also, if I dont have it, how hard is it to install and is it recommended that a "regular joe" attempt it?

If you have the block heater it will be near the passenger side tow hook behind the bumper, look in there really well.. they're hard to find sometimes.

If you don't have it then you just need the plug, which you can find on ebay or go to the dealer. Install is very easy, just need to locate the heater in the block. I'm sure someone has pictures of it they can post, its hard to explain.. but its towards the rear on the passenger side.

edit: The psd forum is down the page a bit, I'm sure you'll find the info you need if you do a search in there.

I purchased an '06 in December. It had the block heater, but not the cord. Got the cord and installed in about an hour. Would have been less time, but the instructions I had were not for my truck. As most on here, I have mine on a timer for two hours before departure, works great! Got it from powerstroke.com on here.

All 6.0L blocks have the block heater installed. It can be found on the passenger, rear side of the block just above the starter.

Trucks destined for northern tier states and those ordered with the block heater option will have the cord installed. Although, just to muddy the waters, there are some northern tier states that got a mix of trucks with or without the block heater cord.

As has been mentioned, look in the opening for the passenger side, front tow hook. the plug-in end of the block heater cable will be routed into there. If it is not there, you can hit a Ford dealership, International shop, or any number of online places (like some of FTE's sponsors...wink wink nudge nudge....I should sooo get a kick back from this!!) for the cable. You should not have to pay more than about $30-50 for it.

Go to your local International truck dealer. Their price is just over 19 bucks. Same part that you will get from Ford. I posted the actual part number in a smilar thread.

I have posted this before in other threads on the block heater, but here it is again..

Photo was taken looking in through the front passenger side wheel well..

Heater element is to the left of the freeze plug above the starter.

There seems to be a cover behind my passenger side from tire... Does the cover of the wheel well just pop off?

You don't need to take it off to install the cord.. Probably to much of a pain anyway..

The picture I took with my camera through the crack between the plastic inner fender well and the frame..

There is plenty of room to reach up and attach the cord now that you know where it is.
