Brake Help!!!q

I got a 66 f250 and took off the front passenger drum and it wasn't right to say the least. Can somebody please send me a pics as to how they should look. Also the driver side 3 screws that separate the drum from the hub won't come out any ideas. Thanks a lot you guys, want to get my truck stopping soon.

1966 F250's have 8 lug wheels on a 6.50" bolt circle. I don't know of any screws that retain a drum to a hub. There are 8 studs pressed into the hub, securing the drum in place.

These studs should be pressed out/in by an autoparts store machine shop. Hitting them with a hammer in an attempt to remove them could cause damage to the drum and/or the hub.

Once the studs are removed you should not use them again, as the serrations will flatten out. they will need to be replaced.

My 65 F250 has the 3 screws holding the hub to the drum. I did a brake job on the front just last weeklend but didn't remove the hub or replace the drum. I would suggest PB blaster or something similar and let soak for awhile. You might try some heat but not to long to help things out. What don't look right on yours? It would be a couple of days before I could get pics for you so why don't you show pics of what you have and we can go from there. By the way I think the studs are pressed into the hub and the screws hold the drum to the hub.

Figured out the hub and drum come out as one was able to take the driver side off. I'll post pics in the daylight. Basically there's no self adjuster set up on each side. The bottom spring stretch from shoe to shoe right above the adjuster Im sure I can put it back together just like that and make it manual adjusting. Is it possible that its designed without self adjusters?

Everything else on the truck looks untouched and not "jimmy rigged" So I would love to think that the brakes won't half assed. But just doesn't make sense.

Not supposed to be, it's a 1966.

The bottom spring stretches from shoe to shoe right above the adjuster as it should.

100% possible, because...
F250's were not available with self adjusters until 1967. With drum brakes, all 4 wheels have self adjusters. Be thankful the truck doesn't have them, as they're a problematic PITA

Self adjusters only work (if they work at all!) when you back up and step on the brake pedal. If not properly maintained, within a year or so, the adjuster wheel rusts solid, the cable is notorious for snapping.

When the cable snaps, the cable guide can work loose, float around inside the drum. If the guide gets between the shoe and drum and you step on the pedal, the guide will chew the hell oughtta the drum and brake lining.

Not pleasant!

NumberDummy Thanks for clearing all that up. Had 2 people that claim they knew what they were talking about look at it and tell me I was missing the cable, cable guide, etc. Guess that explains why getting parts was hard.

Marky48170 Ive been going off that picture everytime I go into a parts store. I have bought everything in the picture but can't get the parts to line up like in that picture so something is wrong.

You guys rock I will finish this up today and take back about $60 bucks in parts that aren't needed

Thanks for schooling me on brakes

Neither the fronts or rears on mine have automatic self adjuster. The only problem I ran into was brake shoe size. You prob have the same setup as I do. This is what mine looks like in the rear, but the fronts are similar but without the parking brake hardware.

All F250's thru 1965 have 12 1/8" x 2" front/rear brakes, as do some 1966/72's.

12" x 2 1/2" brakes introduced in 1966. All 1966/72 F250 Camper Specials have this size as do certain GVW F250's.

1968/72 F250 2WD: If optional disc brakes present, the rear brakes are 12" x 2 1/2."

Pic in post #7 is for 1967 and later F250's with self adjusters.
